The National University of Córdoba (UNC) has recognized Dr. María Cristina Añón, an outstanding researcher in the field of food science, with its highest award. Dr. Añón is Emeritus Researcher of CONICET, head of the research group LIDiPA (Laboratory for Research and Development of Protein and Food Ingredients) at the Center for Research and Development in Food Science and Technology (CIDCA), and Emeritus Professor at the National University of La Plata (UNLP). She has also been awarded the Platinum Konex Award, recognition for her long career in food biochemistry.
The award ceremony took place in the Hall of the Americas, within the framework of the CICyTAC 2024 - IX International Congress on Food Science and Technology, held from October 16 to 18 at the emblematic Argentina Pavilion of the UNC. The congress brought together more than 1,000 attendees, including prominent academics, researchers and students, consolidating itself as a reference space for scientific exchange in Latin America.
The ceremony was presided over by the Rector of the UNC and was attended by academic authorities, colleagues, students and a significant delegation from CIDCA, made up of researchers and fellows who also participated in the congress. During the ceremony, the impact of Dr. Añón's studies in the field of food science and technology was highlighted, particularly in the research of functional and structural properties of food proteins, contributing to the development of innovative foods of high nutritional quality.
After receiving the award, Dr. Añón thanked with emotional words the honor granted by the UNC. Subsequently, she gave a plenary lecture, in which she addressed key issues of her specialty. In the final part of her presentation, she referred to the change of name of CIDCA, highlighting the evolution and growth of the institution in the field of food research. He also proudly announced the launch of CIDCA's new journal, Basic and Applied Research in Food, a space for scientific dissemination that seeks to promote advances in food science and technology, both at the basic and applied levels.
At the Center for Research and Development in Food Science and Technology (CIDCA), we are deeply proud of this distinction, which recognizes Dr. Añón's invaluable contribution to scientific knowledge and the training of new generations of researchers. Her dedication and leadership in the field of food biochemistry are an inspiration for the entire team and a reflection of the values we promote in our institution.
With an extensive career, Dr. Añón has been a reference not only nationally, but also internationally, and her work has left an indelible mark on the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field of food.
